English PKSK adalah salah satu subjek yang menentukan peluang anak anda ke SBP atau MRSM. Ramai pelajar cemerlang dalam subjek lain tetapi tersungkur di English kerana kurang penguasaan grammar asas dan teknik comprehension yang betul. Panduan komprehensif ini akan membimbing anda menguasai 12 tenses, prepositions, articles, comprehension strategies, dan writing section dengan pendekatan yang sistematik dan mudah difahami.
Format Kertas English PKSK 📓
English PKSK terdiri daripada tiga bahagian utama yang menguji aspek berbeza dalam penguasaan bahasa Inggeris.
| Section | Question Type | Marks | Time Suggested |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section A | Comprehension (Passage + Questions) | 30 marks | 20 minutes |
| Section B | Grammar (Multiple Choice & Fill in Blanks) | 30 marks | 20 minutes |
| Section C | Writing (Formal Letter / Essay) | 40 marks | 35 minutes |
📋 Important Fact: Section C (Writing) carries the highest marks but many students rush through it because they spend too much time on Sections A & B. Time management is critical for success!
12 Tenses Simplified ⏰
Tenses adalah asas grammar English. Ramai pelajar keliru antara satu tense dengan tense lain. Mari kita pecahkan kepada 12 tenses dengan cara yang mudah difahami.
Present Tenses (3 Types)
| Tense | Formula | Example | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Present | Subject + V1 (s/es) | She reads every day. | Habit, fact, general truth |
| Present Continuous | Subject + am/is/are + V-ing | I am reading now. | Action happening now |
| Present Perfect | Subject + has/have + V3 | He has finished homework. | Past action with present result |
Past Tenses (3 Types)
| Tense | Formula | Example | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Past | Subject + V2 | She went to school yesterday. | Completed action in the past |
| Past Continuous | Subject + was/were + V-ing | I was sleeping at 10pm. | Action in progress in the past |
| Past Perfect | Subject + had + V3 | He had eaten before I came. | Action completed before another past action |
Future Tenses (3 Types)
| Tense | Formula | Example | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Future | Subject + will + V1 | I will study tomorrow. | Future plan or prediction |
| Future Continuous | Subject + will be + V-ing | She will be working at 3pm. | Action in progress at future time |
| Future Perfect | Subject + will have + V3 | I will have completed by Friday. | Action completed before future time |
Perfect Continuous Tenses (3 Types)
- Present Perfect Continuous: Subject + has/have been + V-ing. Example: "I have been studying for 3 hours." (Action started in past, continues to now)
- Past Perfect Continuous: Subject + had been + V-ing. Example: "She had been waiting for 2 hours when I arrived." (Action in progress before another past action)
- Future Perfect Continuous: Subject + will have been + V-ing. Example: "By June, I will have been learning English for 5 years." (Duration of action before future time)
💡 Memory Tip: Simple = Basic action. Continuous = Action in progress (-ing). Perfect = Completed action (has/have/had + V3). Perfect Continuous = Duration emphasis (been + V-ing).
Prepositions Guide (In, On, At, By, With) 📍
Prepositions adalah antara topik yang paling kerap diuji dalam PKSK. Ramai pelajar silap guna prepositions of time dan place.
Prepositions of Time
- IN: Months (in January), Years (in 2026), Seasons (in summer), Parts of day (in the morning/afternoon/evening). EXCEPTION: at night!
- ON: Days (on Monday), Dates (on 15th March), Special days (on my birthday, on New Year's Day)
- AT: Specific time (at 3pm, at noon, at midnight), at night
- BY: Deadline (by Friday = on or before Friday), Transport (by bus, by car) - EXCEPTION: on foot!
Prepositions of Place
| Preposition | Usage | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| IN | Inside enclosed space, countries, cities | in the room, in Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur |
| ON | Surface, floor, street | on the table, on the 3rd floor, on Jalan Raja |
| AT | Specific point/location | at the door, at the bus stop, at home |
| BETWEEN | Two people/things | between Ali and Ahmad, between the shops |
| AMONG | More than two | among the students, among the crowd |
Other Important Prepositions
- WITH: Accompany or instrument. "I went with my friend." "Cut with a knife."
- FOR: Purpose or duration. "This book is for you." "I studied for 3 hours."
- ABOUT: Topic. "We talked about the exam."
- OF: Possession or part. "The cover of the book." "A piece of cake."
⚠ Common Mistakes:
- "in 5pm" ❌ WRONG! Correct: at 5pm
- "on the evening" ❌ WRONG! Correct: in the evening
- "at Malaysia" ❌ WRONG! Correct: in Malaysia
- "between three students" ❌ WRONG! Correct: among three students
Articles: A, An, The 📝
Articles kelihatan mudah tetapi ramai yang silap guna. Mari kita fahami peraturan asas.
A vs An
- A: Before consonant SOUND. Examples: a book, a university (sounds like "you-niversity"), a one-hour class (sounds like "won")
- AN: Before vowel SOUND (a, e, i, o, u). Examples: an apple, an hour (silent 'h'), an umbrella, an honest man (silent 'h')
A/An vs The
- A/AN (Indefinite): First mention, any one. "I saw a cat." (any cat, first time mention)
- THE (Definite): Specific, mentioned before, unique thing. "I saw a cat. The cat was black." (specific cat) | "Look at the moon." (only one moon)
When to Use THE
- Rivers, seas, oceans: the Pahang River, the Pacific Ocean
- Mountain ranges: the Himalayas (BUT single mountain: Mount Kinabalu - no 'the')
- Countries with 'republic/kingdom/states': the United Kingdom, the United States
- Superlatives: the best, the tallest, the most beautiful
- Unique things: the sun, the moon, the earth, the sky
When NOT to Use Article
- General plural nouns: "I like books." (books in general, not specific books)
- Meals: I have breakfast at 7am. (EXCEPT if specific: "The breakfast was delicious.")
- Sports: I play football. (BUT musical instruments: "I play the piano.")
- Most countries: Malaysia, Japan, France (EXCEPT: the Philippines, the Netherlands)
Comprehension Strategies 🔎
Comprehension menguji keupayaan memahami, menganalisis, dan mencari maklumat dengan cepat. Ikut strategi ini untuk jawab dengan efisien.
- Read Questions First (3 minutes). Baca SEMUA soalan sebelum baca passage. Underline keywords dalam soalan. Ini beri anda fokus apa yang perlu dicari semasa membaca.
- Skim the Passage (2 minutes). Baca passage dengan cepat untuk faham struktur dan main ideas. Jangan baca setiap perkataan detail - cuma tangkap general idea setiap paragraph.
- Read Carefully for Answers (12 minutes). Sekarang baca passage dengan teliti, fokus pada bahagian yang ada maklumat untuk jawab soalan. Biasanya soalan mengikut urutan paragraph dalam passage.
- Answer in Complete Sentences (3 minutes). Tulis jawapan dalam ayat lengkap dan grammatically correct. Paraphrase apabila boleh - jangan copy word-for-word kecuali soalan minta quote.
Question Types & How to Answer
- "What is..." / "State..." - Factual question. Answer found directly in text. Write in complete sentence.
- "Why..." / "What caused..." - Reason question. Look for cause-and-effect relationship. Use "because" or "due to" in answer.
- "How..." / "In what way..." - Process/method question. Show steps or explain manner. Be specific and clear.
- "According to the passage..." - Must base answer ONLY on passage information, not your own knowledge.
- "What does the word... mean?" - Vocabulary question. Use context clues from surrounding sentences to figure out meaning.
- "What is the main idea of paragraph X?" - Usually the topic sentence (first or last sentence of paragraph). Summarize in your own words.
✓ Pro Strategy: For questions asking "Give TWO reasons" or "State THREE examples", make sure you give the EXACT number requested. Number your answers (1., 2., 3.) to make it clear to the examiner.
Writing Section: Formal Letter & Essay ✍️
Writing section membawa markah tertinggi (40 marks). Anda biasanya akan diberi pilihan menulis formal letter ATAU essay. Pilih yang anda lebih confident!
Formal Letter Structure
- Your Address (top right). Tulis alamat anda (boleh fictitious). Jangan tulis nama anda!
- Date (below your address). Format: 15 March 2026
- Recipient's Address (left side, below date). Nama penerima, jawatan, alamat organisasi.
- Salutation. "Dear Sir," (if male) / "Dear Madam," (if female) / "Dear Sir/Madam," (if don't know gender)
- Subject Line (underlined). "Subject: Application for..." or "Subject: Complaint Regarding..."
- Body (3 paragraphs). Para 1: Introduction & purpose. Para 2: Main content (details, reasons, examples). Para 3: Conclusion & action requested.
- Closing. "Yours faithfully," (if Dear Sir/Madam) OR "Yours sincerely," (if name known)
- Signature. Your signature + Your name (printed)
Essay Structure (5 Paragraphs)
- Introduction (3-4 sentences). Hook sentence to grab attention. Background of topic. Thesis statement (main point).
- Body Paragraph 1 (5-6 sentences). First main point. Explanation with details. Example or evidence. Link to next paragraph.
- Body Paragraph 2 (5-6 sentences). Second main point (different from first). Detailed explanation. Relevant example. Transition to next point.
- Body Paragraph 3 (4-5 sentences - OPTIONAL). Third point if time permits. If rushing, skip this and go straight to conclusion.
- Conclusion (3-4 sentences). Restate thesis in different words. Summary of main points. Final thought or recommendation.
Linking Words (Must Use!)
Linking words membuat writing anda flow dengan baik dan menunjukkan connection antara ideas.
- To add ideas: Furthermore, Moreover, In addition, Additionally, Besides that
- To show contrast: However, Nevertheless, On the other hand, In contrast, Although
- To give examples: For example, For instance, Such as, To illustrate, Specifically
- To show cause/effect: Therefore, Thus, As a result, Consequently, Because of this
- To conclude: In conclusion, To sum up, In summary, Finally, All in all
👁 Examiner's Perspective: Use varied sentence structures! Mix simple, compound, and complex sentences. Avoid starting every sentence with "I" or "The". Use different subjects and opening phrases to show your range.

5 Strategi Tingkatkan Vocabulary
- Read English Materials Daily (15 minutes). Baca artikel berita, cerita pendek, atau buku mudah. Jangan translate setiap perkataan - cuba fahami dari context. Circle new words dan check meaning later.
- Keep a Vocabulary Notebook. Setiap hari catat 5 new words dengan meaning, example sentence, dan synonym. Review notebook setiap minggu.
- Use Flashcards for High-Frequency Words. Buat flashcard untuk 100 most common PKSK words. Study 10 cards setiap hari during breakfast or before sleep.
- Learn Word Families. Apabila belajar "happy" (adjective), belajar juga "happiness" (noun), "happily" (adverb), "unhappy" (opposite). Ini multiply your vocabulary fast!
- Use New Words in Sentences. Don't just memorize meaning - create your own example sentences. Better yet, use the new words when speaking or writing. Usage = Long-term memory!
